People are like rare natural jewels. Some of us are quartz; some are more beautiful for their flaws, like turquoise, or fire opal, or star sapphire. Some of us are just dull and ugly, like a five-dollar ruby.
We still shine, sometimes, but we all have our flaws and occlusions, which make us imperfect; beautiful, but each with faults. I say this both as a philosophical simile and also to say I’m sorry baby, I didn’t know she was your sister.
