It is a little known fact...that moments before that huge east coast blackout a few years back I was just two strikes away from bowling a perfect game. No shit. I’ve always been a decent bowler but I never had a game like that. I was possessed, strike after strike and before I knew it I was in the tenth frame and just a strike and two bonus frames away from a perfect score, 300. I refused to waste a moment, I didn’t even think as I bowled the tenth frame, I just fixed my sights on the eye pin and rolled. I didn’t have to look to know it was a strike. The pins had just re-racked for my first bonus frame as the power went out. I wasn’t sure what had happened. At first I thought it was just my eyes playing tricks me so I bowled through it. Who needs lights when you’re in the zone? I couldn’t see the ball as it curled into the darkness but the sound said it all and I knew I was just one ball and 10 pins away from the perfect game. A small crowd had been gathering to see if I could do it, many of them hoping to witness the elusive 300 for the first time. But as I stood poised waiting for the machinery to re-rack it quickly became obvious that something was very wrong. I stood strong, however, poised like the golden man atop one of those bowling trophies I never won, always falling just a bit short of the winner, never able to put it away. But, today was going to be different because today I was perfect.

06/6/2005Will Disney: So then what happened? I ended up on my roof at 69th street and got to know my neighbors.
06/6/2005The Rid: So I think "then what happened," Disney, is that the author wrote two more parts to the short that are still in tha queue.
06/6/2005Will Disney: Lucky for us, as if he/she had not, the Guest queue would be empty!
06/6/2005Klause Muppet: If this is part 1, Author, do you mind if I wait until the whole series is complete until I vote? I'm not sure if this short stands well on it's own.
06/6/2005qualcomm: author, do you mind if i vote on how well this short stands on its own?
06/6/2005Klause Muppet: Author, do you mind if I place my hand on your inner thigh?
06/6/2005Jawbreaker: I think the 3 installments as a whole will be great!
06/6/2005qualcomm: your use of "poised" in two sentences in a row makes me want to poise you in the face.
06/6/2005Mr. Pony: If there was a real person standing me in front of me telling this story, my mind would be pretty distracted by other things in the room by about the middle of his fifth sentence. I mean, who does this guy think he is?
06/6/2005Litcube: I felt the same way. I am sorry.

06/7/2005TheBuyer: gee, Shane, I don't know.
06/8/2005The Rid (3): Exposition is kinda routine, but parts 2 & 3 are better.
