Mario and Luigi sat at a bar, nursing beers after a long day in the pipes. Luigi was ruminating on their lives and work.
"I dunno, brother. I just don't see a point to this anymore."
"What do you mean?" asked Mario.
"It's like...we clean pipes all day, we unclog drains, and then we kill a few turtles. And then sometimes we get high on mushrooms."
"What's wrong with that?" queried Mario.
"Well, on the face of it, nothing. But what? It's not like there's something else waiting for us. We clean, we kill, we eat mushrooms. Over and over. It's like life is a great big, I dunno..."
"Video game?" said Mario.
Luigi shook his head. "Nah. It's not that."

12/14/2004hagit mizrachy: Broken-down that's three stars for nostalgia and one for gotcha.

12/14/2004Will Disney: This is like the Matrix !!!
12/14/2004Dick Vomit: I can't be sure, but that gotcha ending set up thing is identical to something I read in Bloom County once. Yeah. That's right: Bloom County, assholes.
12/14/2004hagit mizrachy: Thank you Vomit. If this is true I am a razor-burned asshole and mommy I want my stars back.
12/14/2004anonymous: Vomit, which Bloom County is that?
12/14/2004Ewan Snow: There are tons of comic strips, including several Bloom County strips, that use this format of joke. Describe A, describe A, try to find word for A. "Is it 'A'?" "Nah, that's not it."
12/14/2004Ewan Snow: Writing a short about Mario and Luigi isn't a bad idea, but this is too jokey for my taste and the joke itself is outworn.
12/14/2004anonymous: Yeah...I never really read Bloom County, but this is an old joke that I'd heard, never seen written, so I decided to update it. Shit.
12/14/2004qualcomm: i think the bloom county dick vomit's referring to wasn't about the format of rejecting the correct name for something being described, but one in which one or more of the characters get the sneaking suspicion they're inside a comic strip. no, dick vomit? no?
12/14/2004Ewan Snow: Hmmm... don't remember that one. Was Steve Dallas in it? Lola Granola?
12/14/2004anonymous: I'm trying to find it online. No luck.
12/14/2004Dick Vomit: QC: Bingo! Can't remember who was featured, by the final exchange was Character B saying, "A comic strip?" and Character A saying, "Nah, that's not it." Let's say [censored] and Binkley.
12/14/2004Dick Vomit: ...let's say MY LOW and Binkley, that is.
12/14/2004Dick Vomit: by ? BUT!
12/14/2004anonymous: I've got some people I know - bona fide Bloom County fans - on the case.
12/14/2004The Rid: Hrm.
12/14/2004Dick Vomit: Hey, by the way, Bloom County was so rad.
12/14/2004Mr. Pony (2): This short is obviously is obviously set in or around 1982. Luigi and Mario do all sorts of other stuff now, like play tennis. Just barely not a three.
12/14/2004anonymous: Pony, you wound me.
12/14/2004Mr. Pony: I'm sorry. I agree with a great deal of what was said below, although I was never a big Bloom County fan.
12/14/2004anonymous: Humpf. Well. Yeah. Okay.
12/14/2004TheBuyer (3): nice and even and a bit unremarkable. 2 and change for balance
12/14/2004The Rid (4): Three plus one for why not?
12/15/2004scoop (2): I'm tempted to one star this because your such a fucking retard.
12/15/2004The Rid: A retard?
12/15/2004The Fonch: The Rid,
